  • Never too cold for patriotism

    Marva Ellwanger|Nov 13, 2014

Due to the cold front sweeping our area, the Veterans Day ceremony was held at the Louis E. Canady American Legion Post 60 on Tuesday. The ceremony was originally scheduled to be held at the Pine Bluffs Cemetery. The ceremony began with Steve Miller, Post Commander, leading in the Pledge of Allegiance. Miller went on to say, "We honor the memories of those that have gave their lives in the service of our country. And those others who have dropped their burdens by the wayside of life and have...

  • Boom continues around the state, even here in the old home town

    Bill Sniffin|Nov 13, 2014

According to all indicators, business in my home county of Fremont is going well. My banker friends and Chamber of Commerce officials say times are good. Business folks are doing brisk sales. And yet, I admit to feeling like I returned to Sleepy Hollow after a whirlwind spin around the state. If you think business is okay in Lander and Riverton, folks, you need to get out and see what is happening in Cheyenne, Laramie, Gillette, Casper, Rock Springs and Jackson. The level of building activity, b...

  • Albin Delta Club Meeting

    Submitted|Nov 13, 2014

On Thurs., Nov. 6, Delta Club held their annual Christmas party. The hostess was Vernita Anderson, who had her home decorated in the Christmas spirit. Table favors were crystal angels that lit up. We had a wonderful lunch of chicken enchiladas, Mexican rice, broccoli salad and fire roasted veggies. For dessert there was pecan/caramel cheesecake. The group drew names and months for the new year. They guessed who their secret sisters had been, then opened wonderfully fun gifts. Members present were Vernita Anderson, Judy Anderson, Pat Palm,...

  • Veterans protect the rights and freedoms that make us Americans

    Submitted|Nov 13, 2014

Washington, D.C. – Take the time to thank veterans for their willingness to serve. That was the message of U.S. Senator Mike Enzi, R-Wyo., and his wife Diana as they join our nation in paying tribute to America’s veterans. The Enzis issued the following statement to commemorate this special day. “Each year on Veterans Day we take a moment to reflect upon the blessings we have received as citizens of this great nation. One of our greatest gifts – our American way of life – comes to us from the words of our Founding Fathers and the actions of our...

  • Simple can be scary

    Charlene Smith|Nov 13, 2014

Some recipes scare me. For years, I would not attempt homemade cinnamon rolls, resigning my family to store bought, dry tube rolls or occasionally turning flaky biscuits into a version as close as I was willing to get to homemade rolls. Now, I make cinnamon rolls a couple of times a week, and even have the time down to about an hour from the yeast hitting the warm water to the frosting being drizzled over the warm rolls. You may not fear anything. You could possibly be one of those people who...

  • Banner Co. News

    Barb Cross|Nov 13, 2014

Good morning Banner County! Hope everyone is staying warm. We all knew this was coming, but we do not have to like it, right? Monday morning we started the week off with SNOW, the second one this year to be counted. The very first one was just a ‘skiff.’ However, the weather did cooperate last Saturday, Nov. 8 and it was a beautiful day for a beautiful 50th wedding anniversary celebration for Sherry & Stan McKnight. Shimmers of gold decorated the Harrisburg Community Church hall as many, man...

  • Albin News

    Charlene Smith|Nov 13, 2014

Sunday sure was the calm before the storm. Or rather, the oven before the freezer. There were children laughing on the playground, music being strummed in garages, and people out walking and taking in what seemed like the last of fall. Saturday found many of us at the community center offering up our love and support to the Dave Branigan family. A touching memorial for a well-loved man. ‘Through It All’ was a beautiful and fitting song for the service. Please keep Jean and all the family in you...

  • Hereford News

    Carolyn Ragsdale|Nov 13, 2014

For the special this week at the Hereford Community Church, Carolyn Ragsdale read “What Is A Vet?” The sermon topic was “The 23rd Psalm.” This psalm tells about the good shepherd, which is Jesus. Just as a good shepherd takes care of his sheep when they follow him, Jesus will take care of us when we follow him. As we follow Jesus by obeying his word, the Bible, he will lead us, protect us, provide for our needs, and give us peace. He promises that he will always be with us, and we will live wi...

  • Looking Back

    Nov 13, 2014

1 years ago Nov. 13, 1914 That war is fought by boys is a familiar truth that we often forget. But the records of our own civil war prove it overwhelmingly. The department rolls show that in the great rebellion there were enlisted in the army of the north 2,778,309 men, and of these 25 were 10 year old and younger, 225 12 years and under, 1,523 14 years old and under, 844,891 16 years and under, 1,151,438 18 years and under, 2,159,798 21 and under and 618,511 22 years and over. Thus the average of the whole army was 19.7 years. When war thus...

  • No till notes "Drilling Edible Beans"

    Mark Watson|Nov 13, 2014

We drilled our edible bean crop this year rather than planting them with a planter as we’ve done for the last several years. I think we learned a few lessons from this year’s bean crop that I would like to share with you. Let’s start by taking a look at how we planted this year. We had drilled edible beans several years ago and had good success. We planted that bean crop into winter wheat stubble. This first experiment worked well with two exceptions. We didn’t feel we had as good of a plant sta...
