Monday night's town council meeting opened with a discussion of resolution 2019-08, the garbage rate adjustment that was introduced several weeks ago. As mentioned in previous articles, the garbage system here in Pine Bluffs has been operating in the red for quite some time, and as a last measure council has approved a small rate increase to help pull it back into the black. Although there has been some talk about possibly privatizing, most feel that this would only succeed in causing an even...
Small town life is idyllic for some. The quiet, the clean air, and the friendly neighbors are an attraction for some, but what does that lifestyle look like for someone who is being bullied. In this second part of my series on bullying I will be looking at the difference in bullying in a small community verses a larger city. Pine Bluffs is a dream home for many that live here, but what does it look like to a child who is being picked on daily. Laramie County School District #2 (LCSD #2), like almost every other school in America has a set...
CHEYENNE, Wyo. – Governor Mark Gordon announced today that firearms manufacturing company Stag Arms LLC will be relocating to Cheyenne, Wyoming by the end of the year. The relocation is the latest move by a firearm company opting to take advantage of Wyoming’s business-friendly environment. Stag’s decision to relocate to the state follows similar recent moves by other firearms companies, including Weatherby, which relocated to Sheridan from California in 2018, and Magpul, which moved from Colorado to Cheyenne in 2014. “I am pleased to welcome...
One of the more important holidays of the year occurs next week...Thanksgiving Day. Started by a proclamation by President George Washington in 1789, this day was intended to be a national day of thanksgiving for the bounty God had given to our nation. It was only celebrated intermittently until President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed it a federal holiday in 1863. The year that is drawing towards its close, has been filled with the blessings of fruitful fields and healthful skies. To these...
The Junior High wrestlers for the 2019 school year are doing some great things. There are many students from Pine Bluffs that are participating in wrestling this year. There are 14 students this year, and eleven of which are 7th graders. Wrestling is a great thing for junior high students to be involved in and gives them an insight of what to expect if they choose to wrestle in high school. Having an early season of wrestling also makes sure that the same students are able to participate in...

Derik Smith was born with pseudarthrosis of the Tibia and at the age of nine, after nine surgeries, made the decision to have his leg amputated so that he could continue to play in the sports that he loves. "It's football, not feetball, and I am going to play," Derik told his Mom. And play he does. Derik is a defensive and tight end on his varsity football team. He plays basketball, runs track, throws the discus and competes in the long jump. "Competing in football, track or any sport makes me...
Our favorite library ladies, Mary and Molly once again created a fun atmosphere for Pine Bluffs young ones at the library on Tuesday for Turkey Fun. A scavenger hunt, a turkey punch, bingo, and treats were all on the list as children from Kindergarten to fifth grade all took advantage of the chance to let loose. Although this event was a fun prelude to Thanksgiving, please keep in mind that Fun at the Library is still held every Thursday from 10 to 10:45. If you have any questions or would like...
This weeks Thursday Fun Day was filled with giant elephants and other zoo animals that local kiddos could craft and mimic throughout the hour. Library worker Molly Williams entertained the kids with stories and songs. When the stories were over children were able to craft an elephant bag puppet to take home. The library sponsors Fun for Kids every Thursday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Please call Molly Williams or Mary Cushing at 307-245-3646 for more information. Don't forget that the library is...

The Pine Bluffs Recreation Department held their Texas Trail Drive-In Movie Night this last Thursday and it was a huge success! Children who left last week with taped up cardboard boxes showed up on movie night with yachts, race cars, school buses, and small boats. Some of the town officials were on hand to serve up hot dogs, nachos, sodas, and popcorn, and our own Mary Cushing and Mary Kay Novitzke were manning the door handing out tickets and treats, just as they have for the last seventeen...
Serving your country comes with an honor. However, there was a time our Veterans were not hailed as heroes, not protectors of our country and more. VietnamVeterans came home to a country that openly disrespected them. This led to many problems for the Veterans, including one of homelessness. The first Stand Down was organized in 1988 by a group of Vietnam Veterans in San Diego. Since then, Stand Downs have been used as an effective tool in reaching out to homeless Veterans, reaching more than 20...
