We have a serious problem brewing in Eastern Laramie County, and if we are not careful someone will get hurt ... or worse. Of late, there have been several reports at Pine Bluffs and Burns concerning people driving around school buses stopped to let children off at the school. Even one instance is just inexcusable. We are sure you have heard of the woman in Ohio who drove up on the sidewalk multiple times at a school to avoid having to stop while a bus picked up children from school. The judge in the case provided an interesting sentence — t... Full story
Today is Saint Nicholas Day. A day when a few shoes in America and many more in Europe were filled with candy and coins, straw or coal. All this because of one faithful man many years ago did great things in little ways. Saint Nicholas is the patron saint of sailors, merchants, archers, thieves, children, pawnbrokers, and students in various countries. He is also know as Nicholas Wonderworker. He had a reputation for secret gift-giving, such as putting coins in the shoes of those who left them...
There is something about the month of December that seems to bring families together. Sure, I know that Christmas is nigh and that could be weighing on it, but I think there is more to it. In December we seem more willing to accept those families members that we would otherwise try to avoid. And, instead of ignoring or avoiding them, we seem to engage in enjoyable conversation with them. I suppose December is a great month to celebrate family in all their glory or glorious faults, whatever the case may be. This weekend my family gathered at the...

Arnold stated if agricultural use is granted, it would be in effect for 2013 and future years. 2013 property assessments will be mailed...

Ailaina Suppes was at the elbow end of a personal foul last week. “Some of the teams we play are rough,” Ailaina smiled pointing to her black eye. A black eye to an athlete is a sense of accomplishment. Ailaina is a seventh grade utility player on the Pawnee junior high girls basketball team. Kathy Adams, girls basketball coach said even though Ailaina is a standard utility player, the team would be less without her. “She is a team leader, even as a seventh grader,” Adams said. “She works har...

Ever wonder what other parts of the world do for Christmas? What they eat, how they decorate, what exactly do they celebrate? In the next few weeks, the seven continents and their Christmas or December holiday traditions will be spotlighted for you. Christmas “Down Under” has all the glitter, tinsel and excitement as Christmas in America. The biggest difference is the weather. Australia enjoys summer season in December, so Christmas is never white. The continent does have storms this time of...
I’m headed off to Pierre, S.D., for the annual Ag Horizons Conference this week to speak to the growers in the region about adding diversity into their cropping systems. I am looking forward to attending this meeting since it has been awhile since I’ve been there and I always look forward to these regional meetings. I’m certain I’ll leave the meeting feeling like it has been time well spent visiting with growers and speakers from this area. I’ve been asked to speak about adding diversity...
With weather predications mostly in the 60 degree range this week it sure does not feel like December, which is fine by me, other than I really want some moisture. Sort of like wanting my cake and eating it too! I also still have a few things that need taken care of outside that the good old wind has kept me from getting finished. Maybe this week. I talked to my sister in Wyoming the other day and she is having a terrible time getting into the Christmas spirit. Personally, I think part of that i...
I have had a Christmas tree of my very own for a few years. It was a long time coming. In the past someone else has been kind of in charge of the trees in my home. From kindergarten to middle school, my family lived in a home with a family room (translate TV room, pool room, Atari room, etc.) and a living room where mom and dad could visit with their adult friends while my brother and I played or watched TV in the family room. Having those two rooms meant we could have two Christmas trees. The... Full story
