Going into new business immediately after agenda approval and the consent agenda, Mayor Justin Fornstrom read the Resolution 2022-03 on the agenda for review and approval. The board gave recognition to a well deserved team from the school district. Laramie County School District #2 had the committee of whole meeting on December 7th at 7:00 p.m. First was the welcoming of the three new board members which were Cody Nusbaum, Kendra Roeder, and Michael Lerwick. Rodney William Kirkbride passed away November 29, 2022, in Cheyenne, Wyoming. He was 93, and was born December 14, 1928, in Cheyenne. Rod lived his entire life on Cattail Ranch, established in 1889 by his grandfather Alex D. Kirkbride. He attended Cheyenne Central High School, and boarded in town with a minister due to the distance of the ranch from town. Rod also attended the University of Wyoming for two years. Mary Elizabeth (Marks) Bastian, Age 59, died in her home In Thornton, Co. on Dec. 4th 2022 with her family by her side. She was a graduate of Central High School in Cheyenne Wy. She attended the University of Wyoming 2 years. She married Roy Bastian of Egbert, Wyoming in 1963. They lived in Nebraska, Iowa and Illinois before moving to Colorado in 1979. The Wyoming Association Municipalities Wintershop is coming up and an Emergency Medical Technicians class is being held in January for anyone interested in attending. The Albin Town Council met on December 8th at 7:00 p.m. For old business, a review of the lunch program shows it is doing fine. Deck the halls with boughs of holly...Fa La La La La. My granddaughter has been singing that Christmas classic for the last three weeks or so. This is a wonderful time of year in our household and music of all sorts fills the air from sunup until long after sundown. If it isn't on the stereo then somebody is singing. The 2022 annual 4H Awards Banquet was a night of friends, fun, games and, above all, a time to honor the achievements of 4H members and leaders from all over Laramie County. The highlight of the night, at least for me, was to hear all the awards from the Hillsdale Tiptoppers 4H club. The Tiptoppers are primarily made up of youth from the Hillsdale and Burns area. The Grover cafeteria was full of activities. Pawnee High School had their first Craft Fair on December 3rd from 4:00 p.m. through 7:00 p.m. It was at the cafeteria at the Pawnee High School in Grover, Colorado. It was a small craft fair, there were eight vendors at the event. The vendors had personal drawn greeting cards, soaps of different kinds, crocheted dish towels and rags, school calendars, homemade baked goodies, pictures of photos, school t-shirts, and a table of Christmas items. The Town of Pine Bluffs has another championship title to boast about. The Pine Bluffs Lady Hornets Junior High basketball team are the Southeastern Wyoming Athletic Conference (SEWAC) champions. The Tournament held on 10 December in the Pine Bluffs High School gymnasium had the top six seated teams all playing for the championship. The Wyoming State basketball champions, Pine Bluffs Hornets boys varsity basketball team started the season off with the Burns Insurance Winter Classic. The Winter Classic had them playing the Wheatland Bulldogs, Douglas Bearcats, Newcastle Dogies and Torrington Trailblazers. Each team will play four games over a three-day span. Our little corner of the state has produced some amazing athletes and teams this past year. The Pine Bluffs Boys Varsity Basketball team is the state champs in their division for the 2021-22 season. The Burns Broncs Girls Volleyball team is the state champs in the 2A division, and the Pine Bluffs Varsity football team is the undefeated state champs. Many of the athletes have won Conference and State recognition for being the best in their arena. All of these accolades are earned and well deserved. Baylen Smith, senior at Burns High School has signed with Waldorf University in Forest City, Iowa. His soon to be new wrestling coach Ryan Dickinson drove all the way to Burns, Wyoming to have him sign with the university. Dickinson said, "Smith got my attention with his free styling record ability. At Waldorf University we are big in the freestyle and greco style in the state of Iowa.
