    Barb Cross|Dec 20, 2012

Good morning to each of you here in Banner County and to all of our friends and neighbors near and far. Here is hoping that you are all ready for the Christmas holiday. I am not completely, but I am getting closer. Guess that is a great thing since the 25th is only a few days away. Our college kids will be home and many other family members will be also, and that in itself will be a lot to be grateful for. Last week the Wildcats hosted Leyton in four basketball games, traveled to Creek Valley...

The weather has warmed a bit these last few days, but I am sure most of us, especially the farmers, would trade the moderate temperatures for a few days of soaking moisture. One of these days those gray clouds might turn into precipitation. Maybe someone ought to put that on their Christmas list and put out an extra jug of milk for the big guy. The Albin Elementary School put on a lovely concert Thursday evening. All the students were shined up in their Christmas best singing and dancing. Jack...

For the special this week at the Hereford Community Church Steve Hauer read “What About Joseph?” Pastor Opdycke’s sermon title was “No Room.” The scripture from Luke 2:5-7 tells us that there was no room for Mary and Joseph at the inn. The inn keeper missed Christmas because he was too busy. Matthew 2:1-18 tells about King Herod. When the wise men came to the king to ask about the newborn King of the Jews, King Herod missed Christmas because he was fearful of loosing his throne. We do not want...

Tim was re-elected as chairman of the board. Shirley was reappointed as clerk/treasurer. Tim, Verne, and Karl were reappointed to the health board. The board voted in the updates to the Nebraska Basic Ordinance Code (this is available at the office for anyone who would like to read it). They also approved the 2013 emergency m...

The young people of our town deserve much praise for their efforts to raise the additional money needed to pay for the church piano. What is of value to our churches should interest all. President-elect Wilson returned from his vacation trip to Bermuda. New York.-President-elect Wilson held up a warning finger to any man who might deliberately start a panic in the United Sates in order to...

  • The end of the Earth is not near. Well, maybe.

    Cynthia Shroyer|Dec 20, 2012

So, what do you think? Will the earth end on Dec. 21st? For some of you, reading this will prove the earth does not follow the supposed end of earth supposedly predicted by the Mayan Calendar — after all you got the paper on the 21st or later and are reading it. For others who get the paper before the 21st … well, you may still be wondering what will happen on Friday. Just exactly when will the end come on the 21st? Will it happen at noon in each time zone? All at once all over? I have to tel...
