It's a new year, and the Pine Bluffs Senior Center has a new director. Alisha Michaud, who will celebrate four years as an employee of the Senior Center in May, has been appointed as the new director beginning Jan. 1, 2015. Beginning the Monday after she graduated from high school in 2011, Alisha became the secretary to former director Norma Jean Anderson, who later retired. Angie Robertson became the new director, and Alisha was appointed the interim director in November 2014. She has lived in...
January January started off on a positive note, reporting that the Pine Bluffs Boys’ Basketball team, the Hornets, beat first Lingle, and then Saratoga, in Pine Bluffs and Saratoga respectively. Alison Mickelson was also named the first Student of the Week for the New Year. Mechanical Systems, Inc. (MSI) finished the water distribution project, which involved laying 5,000 feet of water main throughout Pine Bluffs, and began in August 2011. The Wyoming Wheat Growers Association held its annual meeting in Albin to discuss ideas on improving p...
For a while it was all around me and then poof, it was gone. I am referring to the year 2014. How could a year go by that quickly? Alas, this means it is time to offer up my 2015 predictions of what is going to happen. Two people and one institution will fare very well in the new year, U. S. Sen. Mike Enzi, Gov. Matt Mead and the University of Wyoming. Sen. Enzi will be heading up the powerful Senate Budget Committee, which is one of the most influential jobs in the country. After easily...
You have probably seen me around town the past couple of weeks, and my New Mexico license plate is a little difficult to miss, unless it happens to be covered with snow of late. I am the new reporter at the Pine Bluffs Post, and since I arrived in early December I can honestly say that I have received a very warm welcome from everyone I've met. Pine Bluffs is not the first small town I've worked in as a journalist, and it's been a few years since I've been a reporter, having been a managing...

1 Years Ago Jan. 1, 1915 It leaked out some time ago that we were going to move from near Egbert to Pine Bluffs. So, Tuesday of this week the people of Egbert and vicinity gave us a very pleasant surprise by bringing in all kinds of good thing s to eat and spending the day with us. Near the noon hour they began to arrive and kept coming and coming until the house was full. They soon began to spread their feast upon the table, and such a feast it was. Salads, meats of all descriptions, jellies, fruits, cakes, pies, etc., and so on, which the...
Good morning! HAPPY NEW YEAR! 2014 held many bad moments worldwide, some personal ones as well, but most years do. We as an optimistic society continue to look forward to each New Year with anticipated hope for the goodness it will bring. Many celebrations begin the evening before with parties and family gatherings. Many times, I have stayed up with kids who wanted to watch the “ball” fall from Times Square in New York as the last seconds of a year were counted down. I decided to look into the...

What are you serving this first day of 2015? Prime Rib? Turkey? Or maybe tailgate food for all the games. How about trying some foods that may or may not bring prosperity, luck, and all the good things we strive for in our lives. Supposedly, greens are eaten to start the New Year because they resemble money. And all of us would like a little extra green in our life. The belief goes, the more greens you eat, the more dollars you will have (and the healthier you will be). Maybe you like your...

I would like to start off by wishing everyone a very Happy New Year! This is a good time to reflect back on all the blessings and challenges the past year brought to us. It’s also a good time to look forward with a renewed anticipation of the events this coming year will bestow upon us. I’m often asked this time of year what farmers do during the winter months. I guess folks figure if there isn’t corn growing in the field there isn’t much going on in the farming community. I’ll often respond t...
The District recently hosted a series of meetings with the Ground Water Management Advisory Committees representing each county within the District, outlining proposed changes to the Districtwide Ground Water Management Area Rules and Regulations. Many of these changes are housekeeping measures. But one significant change is importing the District's Chemigation Program rules into the Districtwide regulatory document. This past session, the Nebraska Legislature adopted changes to the Nebraska...

To celebrate the arrival of the new year, many of us will attend parties or host our own gatherings. Of course, we want to eat at those parties. Finger foods, snacks and unique drinks help to break the ice, pass the minutes and quell our growling stomachs. Whether you are hosting a party of your own, or simply want to bring a dish (or beverage) to a shindig elsewhere, why not give these recipes a try? Happy New Year!
