The saying goes, "newer isn't always better," and while I typically tend to agree with that, newer might be better when it comes to glucose monitoring technology. In recent years we have seen rapid development and uptake of new types of glucometers, leaving fewer and fewer patients with diabetes using the old standby fingerstick method of blood sugar monitoring. Let me be clear: not every patient with diabetes needs a fancy new continuous glucometer (CGM). The cost might be higher, and there is...
The Laramie County Sheriff’s Office’s mental health unit has been certified by the Department of Health to complete Addiction Severity Index (ASI) assessments. Inmates cannot apply for addiction treatment beds or be sentenced until an ASI has been completed. In the past, the ASI assessments could take months to be completed, costing taxpayers and delaying treatment. Sheriff Kozak said, “It’s been a goal of mine for our LCSO mental health professionals to be able to complete an ASI so we can help people overcome substance abuse and move through...

Confusion. And deceit. The world is full of it. With the passing of every election cycle, it seems to me that it continually worsens. Rather than telling the truth and being forthright with the American people, candidates use fear mongering tactics and deception to create confusion. Although trillions of bits of information are at our fingertips in our modern society, it is increasingly difficult to disseminate the truth from the falsities and inaccuracies. There is so much misinformation, even...

For the last few years, the garden at Linford Elementary School in Laramie has been dormant. With Laramie's short growing season that spans the months when school is out of session, it's been a challenge to keep the garden going. All of that changed this year when Linford librarian Stefanie Hunt connected with Cent$ible Nutrition Program (CNP) educator Ruth Lake. "I've helped with the garden in the past, and it was kind of in shambles the past couple years," said Hunt. "So, we wanted to partner...
