Summer storms with lightning are suspected in starting the fast spreading Carter Canyon fire. The origin of the fire is believed to be started by lightning about five miles southwest of Gering, Nebraska. This quick moving fire has consumed over 13,000 acres and is only about thirty percent contained. The urgency of this fast moving fire brought a call out to all area fire departments. Looking for a freezer was on the agenda for the night. The Albin Town council had a meeting on July 14th at 7 p.m. It was a quick and to the point meeting. The heat is high and so were the bids for the night. The Hillsdale Ladies sponsored a Benefit for Jay Beavers on July 22nd. Beavers was on a call when he fell from a firetruck. He is a volunteer firefighter for the Burns/Hillsdale Fire Department. When he fell he broke his wrist in several places. Because of that he could not go back to work. The squirt guns were full of paint and ready to go. At the Pine Bluffs Library was a new form of art being discovered on July 13th at 11 a.m. through 12 p.m. Holly Bauer gave each of the kids a canvas set up on the east side of the library on the sidewalk. Each artist received a squirt gun filled with a single color of paint. The paint is washable and watered down a bit to be able to squirt through the gun.
