  • Kite flying takes over the bluffs

    Once a year on top of the bluffs in Pine Bluffs the kites are flying big and high. This was the seventh annual End of the Trail Kite Festival. Pine Bluffs Recreation gave out 100 kites free to the first kids through the line. Parents and grandparents were out with the kids teaching them how to set up a kite and how to fly a kite.     The booths were set up, the animals were in their pens, and the buses filled with kids were heading to the Archer Complex. For at least 20 years the Laramie County CowBelles and the different Laramie County Future Farmers of America have been hosting this event the Ag Expo.     A discussion about the water main that broke was one of the topics at the Burns council on September 25th at 5:30 p.m. All the council members minus Rick Lakin were present at the meeting. There were six guests and town clerk Toni Shiery. Dennis Bastian was excited and had the honor to offer his proposal for the Betty’s Wall sign.     It is always great to learn new things at any age. The Pine Bluffs Senior Center is hosting an eight week nutrition class. The class is Cent$ible Nutrition program. The first class was about the portions on a persons plate. What the protein should be for one person, how much vegetables and carbs on a plate.     CHEYENNE– The Department of Workforce Services Workers’ Compensation Division proposes a significant decrease in workers’ compensation rates. For 2024, the overall rate indication is a decrease of 6.5% compared to the overall Industry Base Rates in 2023. Base rate changes at the class level will vary, but businesses may see up to a 20.1% decrease. The 2024 proposed class rates are listed on the department's website at: dws.wyo.gov/employerservices.     Farm stands are always fun to go to and see what is new and fresh. The Lucky Buffalo Farm stand has opened up just east of the turn off at Hillsdale on the I-80 highway. The grand opening was in July but they are just getting fresh vegetables now. The owners are Joee Rain Pavlica- Kavi, Tim Kavi, and Nick Pavlica.     It is fall with livestock judging in full force. Pine Bluffs Future Farmers of America went to Laramie County Community College to a livestock judging event. The members have an opportunity to use their judgement on what a judge would pick in a contest.
