Many of us ventured out on the past cold Saturday to see the great buys at the community garage sale at the Albin Community Center. Everything from clothes to furniture was offered and bought. The Burns Football team hosted a lunch. A nice event for a Saturday. This week was also the farm and ranch show. No news of how well it went. I am sure we will get the news next week for you. The village board meeting was held Wednesday, March 12. The health board is still working on the cleanup of the lumberyard property. The junk vehicles will be impounded and held in a designated spot on the south side of the lagoon for 30 days and will then be sold for salvage if not claimed. The board discussed increasing water and sewer rates. They decided to increase the sewer rate from $8.90 to $10 and the water base rate from $29 to $31. A special village board meeting was held Wednesday, January 29 at 6 p.m. Verne Hackbarth announced that the Panhandle Area Development District will be present at the regular February meeting to talk about the programs that are available in our area. Good morning! It has been cold outside. By the look of it it will continue to be this way for awhile yet. I did not give one thought to the amazing Pennsylvania Phil, the weather predicting groundhog last week. Sunday came and with it reminders of him. The wind continues to blow. No, really. I thought this weekend we would come out from behind the wind break but we just got more wind to break through. Advice for the week; don’t spit into the wind. The weather, for January, isn't really that bad. Sure, it's cold. And the driveway drifts shut every afternoon. But those warm mild days are really nice and make the in-between days brr-able, I mean bearable.
