  • Lady Hornets fall to Holyoke

    Victoria Smithey Pine Bluffs Post|Jan 9, 2020

Despite their best efforts the Lady Hornets were unable to bring home the win against Holyoke this last weekend. Seniors Maddie and Hyleigh Fornstrom shot for a total of 22 points for the game, but the girls just couldn’t seem to keep the Lady Dragons from taking the ball. “We need to work on shooting, we had a lot of turnovers, and we just didn’t play either side of the ball well” said Coach Lindsey Forbes. With the long winter break over Coach Forbes and the girls are looking forward to getting back into the gym to work on their skills....

The Burns Broncs finished the season with a 56/12 loss to the Mountain View Buffaloes this last week and while their hopes for the state 2A championship are over, the boys played one of the most amazing seasons in many years. Coach Brad Morrison couldn't be more proud of his team, championship or not. "Though we fell one game short of our goal, this season has been a historic one for the Burns Broncs. We scored 34 points per game, which is the second best all time for a Burns Broncs team."...

  • Pine Bluffs Hornets Volleyball

    Victoria Smithey Pine Bluffs Post|Nov 14, 2019

While the hopes for the Hornet girls to take state are over, the spirit and enthusiasm with which they played will make lifetime memories. The Lady Hornets placed second last year and brought home the title in '03, '04, and '05 and while they may not have brought home the title this year, they definitely made the town of Pine Bluffs proud. Coach Lisa Gilbert feels like her final season is still ending on a high note. "I hope they remember the outstanding season and hang on to the awesome...

    Victoria Smithey Pine Bluffs Post|Nov 7, 2019

The Burns Broncs move one step closer to state on Friday when they handily beat the Big Piney Punchers 57/6. While no one can deny that the Broncs seem hungry for the title this year, they aren't taking anything for granted. The boys are playing well together, but they haven't forgotten to stay humble and practice hard! "The boys came out ready to go last Friday. We thought we would have to play well to win, and we did. It seemed like the cold and early adversity slowed Big Piney down, and we we...

  • Burns Broncs vs Thermomopolis Bobcats

    Victoria Smithey Pine Bluffs Post|Oct 31, 2019

The Burns Broncs hit the ground hard on Friday scoring their first touchdown minutes into the first quarter. This was a hard fought win for the Broncs this time, as Thermopolis seemed to have an answer for every play the Broncs brought forward. With five minutes to go in the first, Thermopolis tied the score 7/7. Burns managed to eke ahead again in the second with #34 Boe Clayson managing a two yard rushing touchdown and #11 Keenan Manlove scoring the extra point. So went the game, Burns would...

  • What did Senior Night mean to you?

Kaitlin Paice Pine Bluffs HS Journalism|Oct 31, 2019

What does senior night mean to you? This football team has had a very rough season this year but they have stayed strong and kept their heads held up high. I had asked 2 seniors, Kyle Thurin and Seth Waldroupe, from the Pine Bluffs Football team, what senior night meant to them when they played their last home game of high school football. Kyle Thurin said senior night meant a lot to him because it would be the last time playing at home with the boys. Kyle said that after the game, the senior...

While the Hornets couldn't seem to find their footing this season, they played with heart and conviction. The departing...

  • Burns/Pine Bluffs Cross Country compete at State

    A Rousseau|Oct 31, 2019

State Cross Country was held in the west for the first time and man oh man was it cold. The winter storm and the "artic" chill went all the way to our bones. There was no snow on the ground, but of course, it started while our girls were taking the line. There are 6 races at State XC and this year's order was --4A Boys, 3A Boys, 2A Boys, 4A Girls, 3A Girls, and wrapping up with 2A Girls and Awards. It has been tough running at the 3A level these past two years, especially when comparing times...

  • Burns/Pine Bluffs Cross Country compete in Douglas

    A Rousseau|Oct 24, 2019

Our kids are coming in off of a rest week, since our Cheyenne Meet was canceled due to weather--not sure if/when that has ever happened during the XC Season before. Today was amazing. I couldn’t think of a better way to wrap up the “regular” season. We completed our race day at the Plain’s Ice Cream shop… which if you have never stopped at, you are missing out. We ran two races--Girls and Boys (JV and Varsity races were ran together and scored separately). Our kids showed us what all our hard work was for today. They came to race!!! With the...

    Victoria Smithey Pine Bluffs Post|Oct 24, 2019

The Pine Bluffs Hornets suffered another loss this last week when they hosted the Upton Sundance Bobcats. With a final score of 35/0 the Hornets are having a difficult time finding their footing. #19 Brian Steger played hard with 15 carries for a total of 38 yards, but the Hornets were just not able to make it down the field this time. “We competed very well for 3 quarters. We had some chances to take advantage of their errors but we couldn’t quite convert. Their size ended up being too much for us.” Said Coach Gray. While playoff dreams are n...

  • Hornet's Buzz

Johnna Fornstrom Pine Bluffs HS Journalism|Oct 24, 2019
