It’s almost a sure thing if you run in the same 5K race as Jorge Garcia, the best anyone else to hope for is second place. This was the case this past Saturday at the 15th Annual 5K/1Mile Longhorn Stampede Fun Run/Walk. This year, there were 34 registered participants, but not all of them were local. Even though the day was hot and steamy, 40 ladies from the Panhandle Senior Women’s Golf Association gathered together for an enjoyable day of golf at the beautiful Scottsbluff Country Club this past Monday. Three Pine Bluffs High School coaches were recently named Wyoming Coach of the Year, but they all insist the honor lies with their athletes. Both girls and boys basketball coaches Will Gray and Lindsey Forbes were named Wyoming Coach of the year for coaching boys and girls basketball, respectively. Both their teams won state titles. Owen Wahlert, a Grover, Colo. resident and student at Pawnee High School, has earned a spot on the Wyoming National High School rodeo team. Pine Bluffs Track and Field head coach Dustin Lee was selected by the Wyoming Coaches Association as their 2016 2A Track and Field Coach of the Year. The best Wyoming high school athletes in the state for the 2016 Boys Outdoor Track and Field season have been named by the Wyoming Coaches Association. There is no voting for all-state. The honor goes to the top two athletes in each individual event and the winning relay team.
