    The Pine Bluffs Hornets sports program had a successful 2023 season. They had one state championship team and another that went to the state tournament. The varsity basketball team successfully defended their 2A championship position and the Lady Hornets volleyball team went all the way to the state tournament.     As the year 2023 comes to an end it is great to look back at the accomplishments of the young athletes that represented the schools that they attended. In some cases, the athletes have graduated and moved on to their collegiate journeys and in some cases are still attending their schools. In Burns the highlight of the year was the Burns Lady Broncs varsity basketball team winning the state championship.     The Burns Broncs varsity basketball team faced off against the Alliance Bulldogs of Nebraska in a non-conference match-up. The Bulldogs are ranked fourth in their district in Nebraska and have a record of 3-5. The Broncs lost the contest 43-75 to take their seasonal record to 1-7. CharlieMarie Jackson, the star female wrestler for the team signed a Letter of Intent with the Western New England University Golden Bears. Jackson still has a full year with the Burns/Pine Bluffs team and has a chance to take the championship in her weight division.     On Thursday, December 21st, the Lady Broncs hosted the Alliance Bulldogs of Nebraska. The Bulldogs are third in their district and have an overall record of 4-4. The Bulldogs were just a bit more than the Lady Broncs could handle and they beat them 17-37. As a team the Lady Broncs had 30 rebounds and six steals.     The Pine Bluffs Hornets basketball program is starting up and the team is looking forward to a great season.     The Pine Bluffs Lady Hornets have started off the 2023-24 season in good fashion. They competed in the Burns Insurance Winter Classic where they went 3-1. They then traveled across the border to the Sidney tournament where they did not fare so well and went 1-3.
