Football is a rough and tumble game where a group of people throw and kick a ball across a field. The ball that is used for this game at one time was referred to as a pigskin due to the fact that they were originally inflated with the bladders of animals, including those from swine. However, on Bushnell Day that was no pigskin being tossed around the playing field as they had their first annual Cow Tongue Football games. First you have to wonder why (a cow tongue?) and again exactly how it was...
Welcome to the second annual Bushnell Day Truck Show. There were eight trucks ready for the critical eye of Bushnell Day attendees. Last year there were only three trucks for the showing. Each year it grows and so do the prizes. This year as big as it was everyone received a prize. All of the trucks were spit shined and polished and showing off all afternoon for the people to vote. The winners received a plaque and an item to go into the truck. At first people just loved looking at the trucks...
It was an almost perfect day for roping last Friday and the Pine Bluffs Roping Club took full advantage of the weather. The arena was a little dry and dust would hang in the air, but a slight breeze would come up and clear it out. As the sun set the temperature dropped and became perfect for roping. The club held their weekly team roping competition and it was well attended. A total of 44 cowboys and cowgirls signed up to compete. The computer selected 86 teams for the evening, the season's...
For the last 13 years the annual Covered Wagon and Bike show has been happening at Trail Days. Jeff Weller, coordinator of the event thought it was 14 years but he stood corrected. Time goes by fast like cars. Weller said, "I apologize for not getting the number right on the years." Every year the south street of the Knotty Pine Saloon and the parking lot is filled with cars, trucks, and motorcycles. There were some return competitors and a few new ones, too. This year there were six motorcycles...

The Burns Broncs football team was working on conditioning their intellectual level of the game Tuesday morning. Brain power is just as important as physical conditioning. If you can get a visual idea of what you are doing right and what you are doing wrong you learn and can fix it and or make it better. On this day the team was studying films in the morning after their physical conditioning practice. Exercising both the body and brain can only benefit for the individual and the team. Good luck Broncs and hope to see you in the...

Another sport that is taking the nation by storm is cornhole. Leagues and Tournaments are popping up all over the country and sponsors are scurrying to get involved. Maybe it's because you don't have to be any particular size, strength or gender to participate. Just be able to toss a small beanbag 30 feet across a field onto a short ramp. This is one sport you can throw with one hand and have your drink in the other. Pine Bluffs Trail Days organizers have had a cornhole tournament for the past...

One of the more exciting and fun to watch events during Trail Days is the mud volleyball tournament. This year 21 teams signed up to compete and at the end there was not a clean competitor in the bunch. The morning was a bit chilly as the volleyballers jumped into the mud and water. The gentle breeze made the water seem colder than it was, but this did not sway the teams from giving it their all. There were teams from all over the area, Cheyenne, Kimball, Bridgeport and even some from Colorado....

You sit in the stands and watch your daughter, granddaughter or niece jump, dive and run around a court. They will jump and hit a ball as hard as they can down to the floor on the other side of the net. They will dive and kick to prevent the ball from hitting the floor on their own side. Volleyball has become much more than what the creator of the game envisioned. For those who watch collegiate games they can watch the guys also play. The game was invented by William G. Morgan from Holyoke,...

It started out as a junior and senior rodeo but has trimmed back to just team roping. However talking to some of the ole timers, the younger generation is starting to really show an interest in the sport and it might be coming back to a full rodeo. One of the families that came to participate in the roping event last Saturday was the Lake Family....
