The season of rodeo has started at the Archer Event Center Rodeo Arena. On June 24th at 7 p.m. rodeo folks enjoyed a chuck wagon dinner to to get the evening started off right. The basketballs were going everywhere in the Burns High School gym on June 6th through June 9th from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. during a basketball camp for the middle school students. They had 18 girls attend the camp. This is the only camp they will be doing this summer. The Pawnee Coyotes Clay Target Team competed in the Colorado high school state tournament at Colorado Clays near Brighton on June 11th finishing their season with high honors. The clay target team consisting of students from sixth grade to 12th grade, entered the tournament first place in their conference. The Earl Anderson Memorial Rodeo had it's 99th year. It is called the Home of the Biggest Little Rodeo. Each year people recall their times attending, helping, and/or competing at the rodeo. This year the committee featured the Hill Top Gang. They have attended the rodeo for 18 years. It started with four siblings that fell in love with the area and the way of life. Day two of the Carpenter Antique Tractor Pull got underway with great weather. The crowd was on hand to watch more antique tractors, and the pickups division. The crowd and drivers were able to have their beverages and breakfast burritos as the pulls began. The 2022 Wyoming Shrine Bowl was held last Saturday in Casper. It was quite the event for the Burns athlete who was able to compete in the game. Cody Winslow played on the South team and unfortunately the South lost to the North by a score of 37-3. This would be the 49th time the game had been played and the North team has dominated the series with a total of 26 wins, 19 losses and three ties. During the Freedom in the Ring Livestock Show in Mitchell, Nebraska on June 4th and 5th, local youngsters converged on Mitchell to show their livestock. Tyler Humphrey of Burns, Wyoming was one of the showmen showing his market lamb. Also showing was Kason Bowman, also of Pine Bluffs, showing his market lamb as well. There were several activities held during Burns Day. A bit of something for everyone. First was the 5K Walk/Run. There were about 15 people and one dog on the run. One of our local athletes Cody Winslow, has been chosen to play in the Wyoming Shrine All-Star Football game set for June 11th in Casper, Wyoming. Winslow played tackle and MLB on the football team but also was on the Burns Broncs wrestling team. Winslow was one of the wrestlers that went to state last year. The Wyoming Coaches Association have announced the 2022 All-State recipients in track and field and the Pine Bluffs Hornets did well. The Hornets have a total of four honorees. The Hornets boy's track and field team have Dalton Schaefer as an All-State Honoree. Schaefer placed second behind Carson Rabou in the pole vault and placed sixth in the long jump. The Lady Broncs were one of the strongest teams there having regional champions like Emma Gonzalez, Rylee Jo Ward, D.J. Kaur, Emma Norris and Maianna Siebert. It was a good team showing. The Hornets sports program will have a large hole to fill next year. Not because of the graduating seniors but in the coaching staff. The teams were excited to show their skills on the court. On April 30th Adriana Rooney played Special Olympics Basketball with her team. Adriana Rooney has been playing basketball for four years in High School. She loves the people and the playing with others. Rooney's favorite is to score a basket.
