HAPPY NEW YEAR! The Hereford Community Church started off the new year by celebrating Holy Communion and burning burdens. For the special Carolyn Ragsdale read “Shepherd’s Christmas Reunion” by Baxter Black. The sermon theme was “Jesus Is Lord.”

The scripture for the day was Luke 2:21-35. Joseph and Mary took Jesus to the temple to present him to the Lord just as the Law required. While they were at the temple, a prophet named Simeon took Jesus in his arms and praised God. God had revealed to Simeon that he would not die before he had seen Christ the Lord. Jesus came to bring light to a dark world and to bring salvation to any who would receive him as Lord. And now in these dark times, we must be bold and declare that Jesus is Lord.

Next week the sermon topic will be “Mega-Faith.” Don’t forget the quarterly business meeting of the church next Sunday, Jan. 12, beginning at 10 a.m. before the worship service.
