The wind continues to blow. No, really. I thought this weekend we would come out from behind the wind break but we just got more wind to break through. Advice for the week; don’t spit into the wind.

Those pesky tumbleweeds are more than an eye sore. They can cause fires and block roads. Try to take care of the ones that whirl your way.

Our condolences go out to Jason and Jillian McLaughlin as they mourn the loss of her aunt in South Dakota. Loss is never easy, especially when it is unexpected and sudden. The warmth of a card or a quick hello often helps the dull ache, so remember them this week.

Congratulations to Albin Elementary Kindergarden teach Nikki Poelma for her appointment to the Wyoming Department of Education Director’s Teacher Cabinet. Nikki’s dedication and enthusiasm was commended by the director and inspired him to name her to the cabinet. It was a rigorous process with a high volume of applicants. Nikki’s vision for the direction of the cabinet “stood out” which helped her receive the appointment.

Instructional Facilitator Tracy Petsch is currently leading a book study from a New York Times Bestseller written by Paul Tough. This research based book is titled “How Children Succeed.” Teachers, along with Principal LeAnn Smith meet after school to discuss the text. The book reinforces the need for student development of grit, character, and curiosity in school and in life beyond the classroom.

Coached by Christine Nusbaum, Brian Arzola and Gabe Childers from sixth grade and Luke Lerwick from fourth grade traveled to LCCC in Cheyenne for the Laramie County Spelling Bee Wednesday. At press time, we didn’t know how they did, but we sure are proud of the effort they gave to get there.

The fifth and sixth graders will attend the Cheyenne Symphony today. And remember the second quarter awards program is Monday, Jan. 27 at 8:15 a.m. Please note the date change.
