Serving all of Eastern Laramie County since 1908
Barbara Mechels, 69, passed away at home, surrounded by her family, from melanoma cancer on Jan. 18, 2014. She made her entrance into the world in a notable way when she was born in the family car on the way to the Anoka, Minn. hospital on Oct. 20, 1944.
Barbara was raised in Minnesota, but spent her last 32 years in Burns. She loved Burns, where she raised her two children. She was an active member of the Golden Prairie Baptist Church; her Christian beliefs kept her going despite numerous health issues. Barbara worked for the Laramie County Library System, where she retired after 16 years.
We remember Barbara for her enduring faith in God; the love and respect she had for her late parents and brothers; how she would move mountains for her children and grandchildren. Her passion for them only overshadowed by her love for God. She was intelligent, always a lady, caring, and loving to all she met.
She is survived by her son Jeremy Mechels (Michelle), Burns; daughter Brenda Mechels-Struby (Shannon), Omaha, Neb .; grandchildren, Jonathan and Caedmon Mechels, Teigan and Kyson Mechels-Struby; sister-in-law Mary (Arlo – deceased) Johnson, Monticello, Minn .; cousins Ardis (Wes) Anderson, Las Vegas, Nev .; and Beverly (Jay – deceased) Hermes, Apple Valley, Minn .; nieces and nephews in Minnesota; and many close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dean and Cora Johnson; and two brothers Orian and Arlo Johnson.
Funeral service will be on Feb. 8, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Golden Prairie Baptist Church, 4996 Rd. 226, Burns, WY. Pastor Leon Chriestenson, from Salem, Ore., will officiate. Luncheon will follow the service provided by the church ladies. Wiederspahn Radomsky is handling all funeral arrangements.
