Serving all of Eastern Laramie County since 1908
Pine Bluffs Lady Hornets Sam Hanson, Dana and Sara Mullins and Andrea Baker played, their last game in the Hornets Nest Saturday facing off against the Burns Lady Broncs.
The seniors, along with the rest of the Lady Hornets basketball team, experienced an agitating loss of just 1 point in the game, 41-40.
The Lady Hornets started off strong in the game, ending the first quarter, leading 11-8 in a fast-paced game for both teams. But Burns narrowed the margin, and was able to score.
Shots from the line gave the Lady Hornets the lead through most of the game but a bad-timed foul on the team with 11 seconds on the clock gave burns the lead when it really mattered.
The game ended with the ball in the Lady Hornet's possession, but the girls did not put up the shot.
Coach Lindsey Forbes said emotions may have been a factor in the loss.
"There were high emotions on senior night and they let those emotions take them in the wrong direction," Forbes said.
The Lady Hornets also lost playing Southeast on Friday in double overtime, 54-45.
Despite the loss, Forbes said she felt the team gained a lot of experience and information on Southeast, if they have to face them in regionals. Forbes said she would just make "subtle adjustments" for preparing for regionals Thursday. The Lady Hornets will face Sundance 9 a.m. Thursday morning.
