Obituary: Betty Jean Barkell

Betty Jean Barkell, 90, died March 9, 2014 in Cheyenne. 

She was born to Gottlieb Frank and Caroline "Carrie" (Vogt) Frank on Jan. 5, 1924 in Weld County. On Aug. 8, 1949 she married Ralph Leroy "Roy" Barkell in Omaha, Neb. She spent most of her life in Pine Bluffs before moving to Cheyenne six years ago. She was active at the Assembly of God Church of Pine Bluffs and worked at the senior center for 12 years. She was an excellent cook, especially of fried chicken, and a skilled baker. She was a hard worker and loved to walk.

She is survived by two sons, Ron and Chet Barkell; 16 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and brother, Fritz Frank.

She was preceded in death by her husband; son Jimmy Barkell; and eleven siblings.

Memorial services Saturday, 2 p.m., Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel.
