Banner County News

Hello folks! I sure hope that everyone is doing well and hanging in there. Spring is something like seven weeks away. About that time we will probably get a foot or more of snow, and then maybe spring not too long after that. The ice has been the biggest problem, and it is all melted around here, but it sure is awful in other places. It is time for me to buy a bouquet of flowers. I end up doing that once or twice during the winter to remind me that spring will be here!

Winter birthdays finishing out January include: Jessie Cross, Abbie Fulk, Ronald Kennedy, Ryan Olsen, Kaitlin Knaub, Sue Talkington, Sonya Deines, and Delores Jerred .Happy Birthday!! No one picked any of these days to get married, and the weather was most likely the reason, so no anniversary celebrations this week.

The MAC Band Clinic was held at the school this past Monday, and I do not have any information on this as of yet. Hopefully I will by next week so I can let you all know how that went.

This Saturday, Jan. 31, the wrestling team will be on the matts at 8:30 in Mitchell and there will be high school basketball at Home versus Morrill beginning at 1 p.m.

Moving into February, Monday the 2nd the junior varsity basketball teams will play at Home against the Mitchell Tigers beginning at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3, the junior high boys will play at Home versus Scottsbluff beginning at 4 p.m., and then on Wednesday, Feb. 4, the junior high will travel to Lodgepole to compete against Creek Valley at 1 p.m. Safe travel and play hard!

Also on Wednesday the 4th, the FFA students will be competing in the District contest at Gordan. Do your best, and safe travel!

Speaking of school, I received the news letter from the Historical Society this past week and I am happy to let you know that a total of 845 fourth grade students attended Flower Field this past fall. The ladies that teach there, and each of the volunteers, are greatly appreciated for all that they do. I have spoken on more than one occasion with a graduate who will mention their day at Flower Field.

I am sad to report the passing away of Phyllis Shaul whom many of you have known over many years. She was an extremely generous and kind lady, and our sympathy goes out to her family for their loss. I would also like to express get well wishes for Barbara Thompson, we think of you daily.

Also, I am seeking classmates of John Person who graduated in 1979 from BCHS. John is the son of Viola and Charlie Person and after graduation joined the Navy where he spent 24 years in service. At this point in his life John is battling throat cancer and his family is asking those who remember John or would like to send him words of encouragement to contact him at [email protected]. I have personally never known John, but I do remember his ‘little sister’ Leslie. She was one of the ‘big kids’ when mine where first starting to ride the school bus, and she was their protector. I sure hated it when she graduated and was not there.

Well folks that is about all I have for this week. I am not even going to mention that ole groundhog because he makes me mad, even if he is kinda cute. Everyone take care until next time, and call me at 436-7152, 641-1335, or write to me at [email protected] Barb Cross ( Mrs. Rod )
