Carlstrum's Store Broken
Into Tuesday Night
Carlstrum's Dry Goods Store was broken into some time Tuesday night and something like $40.00 in goods and money were taken.
The parties entered through the back window. They tried to remove the lower sash of the window by prying off the casing with a crowbar and failing in this, they broke out the glass and entered the store through the opening. A crowbar that C. E. Carlstrum used for opening up his machinery was found at the window the next morning.
The parties evidently spent some time in the store selecting what valuables they desired, for burnt matches were scattered over the store and everything torn up and scattered promiscuously. What change was in the cash register, six dollars, several pairs of men's and women's shoes, hose, gloves, shoe blacking and numerous other articles were taken.
The suspicion fell on parties, one man and one woman, who represented themselves to be show people who had been in town for a few days and a party who were camped near town. These parties were searched but no stolen goods could be found and no positive evidence secured.

DEER HERDS RAID
LEWIS GARDEN TO GET
CHOICE EATS
The Pine Bluffs deer herd is getting pretty good eats these days – or nights – according to Otto Lewis, who complains that the animals have been showing up in ever increasing numbers nightly to feed on his flower and vegetable gardens.
He said that apparently only two of them raided his garden one night the first of the week, but that each night since there are apparently more animals in the raiding party, and that Tuesday night the whole tribe must have been there. “They are not satisfied,” he said, with eating all the blooms off the carnations and rose bushes and cleaning up the lettuce bed, but they ate generous samples from the ends of practically every earn of sweet corn in the patch.” He is expecting them back tomorrow night to finish the job which they have so well started.
The dryness of forage in the hills south of town where they usually range is said to be the probable reason for their raiding of town gardens.

Miss Dulsa Graves, Teenage Rodeo and Harvest Festival Queen, to the delight of spectators and Jaycee Rodeo arena workers, donned suitable clothing and took a turn at riding a calf sunday afternoon. She managed to stay astride for a couple of bucks, but she says the ground near the chutes was sure hard – and she has the bruises to prove it.

Sand volleyball tour-
nament won by locals
The Pine Bluffs Recreation Sand Volleyball tournament which was postponed from Trails Days weekend was held Saturday, Aug. 11 at the sand volleyball pit in Reher Park. There was some excellent play for a slightly disappointing turnout. Everyone who did show up had a very good time and were pleased with the tournament.
First place went to the Gross team with Jennifer and Mary Gross along with Kris Klopfenstein. They beat all competitors with the closest match coming in the championship game which was played against the Fornstrom team (Tisa and Justin Fornstrom and Jeanette Schietel). Bret Reher and his team (Heather Ladd and Eric Conner) took third.
All contestants received a T-shirt and each team went away with a certificate for a large pizza. Thanks for participating everyone!

The annual Kieler Family
Reunion was held Sunday.
Garfaye Kieler Reher was the oldest member attending while her great-granddaughter, seven month Alexis June Curry was the youngest. The picnic was hosted by Ernestine Fossen at her new home in Cheyenne instead of at the city park in Pine Bluffs because Garfaye and Alfred Reher recently moved from Pine Bluffs to Cheyenne for medical reasons. What luck as the weather was damp and cold. Everyone enjoyed the feast provided by potluck style. It is always a great time of story telling, memory making and passing family history knowledge to the next generations. It was nice to see Mary Roth on the mend after her accident.
Those attending this years reunion were Howard and Mary Roth Kieler of Pine Bluffs, Dennis and Judy Kieler of Lyman, Neb., Chele, Doug,Kylie Eylisch Porter of Burns, Garfaye and Alfred Reher, Bobbi and Walt Mecomber, Duane and Kandi Kieler, Ernestine Fossen and Cotton Kieler, all of Cheyenne, Anita Thomas and Meggan Kieler of Fort Collins, Chad, Sheila, Kiana, Kamika, and Kyleigh Kieler of Eaton, Colo., Dwight Glahn of Arvada, Colo., Terry, Phyllis and Katie Carpenter and Kim and Alexis Curry of Parker, Colo., and Jana Berryman of Denver.
