Shop smart at a Farmer's Market

Farmers’ Markets provide your best chance at fresh produce. Here are some tips for shopping at a Farmers Market.

Ask the seller if they actually grew the produce. Ask when they harvested the crop.

Some growers are organic and some are not. If that is important to you be sure there is some mention or display that actually says “organic.

For the best selection go early. For the best prices, go late as they may be marking down their produce so they don’t have to take it back to the farm.

Many vendors offer tastings. If so go for it. Then you know exactly what you are getting.

When you get home, wash everything. Even things you don’t eat like the skin of a melon or cantaloupe. Even organic food can harbor microbes that can make you ill.
