Serving all of Eastern Laramie County since 1908

Banner County News

Good morning Banner County, friends near and far. The changing seasons have been pretty obvious here this past week. This has always been my favorite time of the year. I grew up in a small town with huge trees everywhere. I also spent many a weekend raking leaves while listening to the football game on the radio. Way back then we were allowed to burn the leaves and I loved the smell. The color change of the leaves was always, and still is, one of the most beautiful times of the year as far as I am concerned.

Speaking of burning, the Banner students will celebrate their up coming Homecoming with the annual bonfire, tonight, with skits and daily dress competition. Tomorrow, Oct. 9, the volleyball teams will play here at home against Arthur County. Games will begin at 4:30 p.m. and the Dazzling Disco Dance will be held later that evening in the little gym from 9:30 p.m to midnight.

Also on Friday, elementary students, K thru 6th grade, will travel to the Punkin' Patch in search of the Greatest Pumpkin! Have fun with that and safe travels.

Saturday, Oct. 10, the junior high MAC volleyball competition begins in South Platte. I do not have game times so please call the school at 308-436-5262 if you need to know.

Monday, Oct. 12, the Banner County School Board will hold the regular monthly meeting at 7 p.m. in the school cafeteria. Everyone is invited and encouraged to attend. Tuesday, Oct. 13, is Water Education Day for the 5th grade class, and for a couple of hours in the morning the rest of the elementary, Pre K thru 6th, will attend a Fire Prevention Program at the school. We are now required to have monthly fire drills at the school, and we are striving to become more proficient in disaster preparedness and safety.

Wednesday, Oct. 14, the junior high volleyball and football teams will travel to Gurley. The girls will play at 1 p.m. and the boys will play at 2 p.m. Safe travel and good luck to you all.

We have a few birthdays to celebrate here in Harrisburg and the county, and some family connections near and far. Happy Birthday to Gary Darnall, Sean Rogers, Hannah Klosterman, Jaymes Talkington, Kaden Bohnsack, Joyce Booker, Susan Griffiths, Kinsey Groves, Karter Mosby, Trenton Knaub, Seth Cross and Grace Griffiths.

Anniversary congratulations to Mr. & Mrs. John Gifford, Mr. and Mrs. Steve Brown, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Stauffer and Mr. and Mrs. Shawn Fulk.

Well folks this has been it for the week. I so hope the warmer weather will hold up just a bit longer. Especially for all of us who are waiting to get windows replaced and painting or other repairs finished. Have a great week and take care until the next time. Please send me your news to [email protected] or call me at 308-436-7152 or 308-641-1335. Barb Cross (Mrs. Rod).
