Charles G. (Chuck) Shellhart died on July 8th, 2016 at Platte County Legacy Home of natural causes.
Charles Guy Shellhart, was born on March 3, 1933 in Cheyenne, Wyoming, son of Roye Francis and Marguerite Ailene (Johnson) Shellhart. He was raised on a ranch south of Cheyenne and graduated from Cheyenne High School in 1951. At which time he enlisted in the United States Navy serving from 1952 to 1955 during the Korean War.
On May 3, 1953 Chuck and Eloise E. (Weezie) Sandberg were joined in marriage.
Chuck worked for a few years as a general agent for Railway Express, Denver until 1957 when he and Weezie began their ranching life, establishing Cross Arrow Ranch. Over the next 50 years they would buy and sell several different properties in Platte and Albany Counties expanding their cattle operation and raising their children Rodney Dean and Janet Lea.
In 1965 Chuck entered the real estate business as Broker/Owner of Laramie Peak Realty, specializing in Farm & Ranch properties. Chuck retired from this successful enterprise after 52 years in 2013.
During these years he also served as Treasurer of Wyoming Mutual Insurance Company from 1969 to 2009; Director Wyoming National Bank. Director Platte County Memorial Hospital, Wheatland, and on Chairman Platte County Planning Commission
Chuck was a member of the National Association Review Appraisers, National Association Real Estate Appraisers, Laramie Peak Stock Growers, Wyoming Stock Growers Association, National Institute Farm & Land Brokers, Wyoming Association Realtors, National Association Realtors, North Albany, Rock Lake Grange, Loyal Order of Moose, Odd Fellows, and Masons.
Chuck loved the outdoors, especially spending time “in the hills”, at their ranch on Little Green Mountain and Brittana Mountain. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, but also found joy in just watching elk and birds.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and three sisters, his wife Eloise (Weezie), son Rodney Shellhart, daughter Janet Shellhart Diaz, grandson Taylor Jay Shellhart.
He is survived by his sister Sharon (Jim) Frazell, granddaughters Nicole Shellhart, Cheyenne, WY; Cassidy Nunez, Lubbock, TX; Breanna (Mike) Mallo, of Cheyenne, WY; Jordyn Shellhart, Nashville,TN; and Shayna Gustafson, Wood, SD; and five great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers contributions to Platte County Legacy Home, 100 19th Street, Wheatland, WY 82201 would be appreciated by the family.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Gorman Funeral Homes are in charge of the arrangements.
