Esther Maxine Hopkins, 92 of Greeley, CO, passed away July 13, 2016 at Grace Pointe Assisted Living Center of Greeley. Esther was born October 16, 1923 in Albin, WY, to William August and Hattie Amelia (Olson) Lerwick. She married Clyde "Crandall" Hopkins in August 21, 1948.
Esther grew up on the family homestead near Albin, WY. After high school and two years of college she taught at a little country school on Happy Jack Road, west of Cheyenne, WY. After she and Crandall were married she moved to his family farm near Clearwater, NE. She helped manage the family farm and raise 6 children. After Crandall's death in 1991 she maintained the family farm as her place of residence until 1996, when she moved to Cheyenne, WY, where she spent time in various volunteer positions, including being a teacher's aide. She moved to Greeley in 2008.
She is survived by her children Fred (Joan) Hopkins, of Webster City, IA, Linda Kirkconnell, of Bozeman, MT, Maxine Duran, of Stuart, FL, Rex (Julie) Hopkins, of Greeley, CO, Joe Hopkins, of Anchorage, AK, and Lee (Melanie) Hopkins, of Pasco, WA. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and one great-grandchild on the way.
She was preceded in death by her husband Clyde "Crandall" Hopkins, her parents; her brothers Orville, Melvin, Glenn and Harold Lerwick; and her sisters Verna Jensen, Mildred Morrison and Dorothy Olson.
A visitation will be held from 9-11:00 A.M. with services to follow starting at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, July 21, 2016 at the Journey Christian Church, 4754 W. 31st St., Greeley, CO, with a reception to follow at the church.
