National Weather Service: Record severe weather warnings in July

Over a 10-day period, the National Weather Service in Cheyenne issued 95 total warnings. As a breakdown, that’s 74 severe thunderstorm warnings, 14 tornado warnings and seven flash flood warnings.

Compare that to a low of eight warnings issued in 2009, all severe.

In 2016, the NWS Cheyenne office issued 71 warnings, all of which were severe over the same 10-day period of July 20 - 30.

Of those, 59 were severe, 10 were tornado warnings and two were flash floods.

The NWS Cheyenne office covers rural northern Colorado, southeastern Wyoming and the Nebraska Panhandle.
