Originally known as Armistice Day, Veteran’s Day is the anniversary of the signing of the truce that ended the fighting during World War I in 1918. In 1926 Armistice Day became an official holiday. Many years later on June 1, 1954, the name was changed to Veteran’s Day to honor all US Veterans from all wars. Veteran’s Day is intended to honor all military personnel, especially those who are still living while Memorial Day is slated to honor those who died in service of their country.
