Gold Star Spouses A Veteran Family Story

April 5th is Gold Star Spouses day. As we honor all Gold Star spouses and the tremendous sacrifices that they have been called to make, we look back at the history and evolution of Gold Star Spouses day and how it's observed today.

According to the US Army, the Gold Star as a symbol for those who made the ultimate sacrifice dates back to 1918, when, in the midst of the WWI, families would place a Gold Star over the blue star service flag in their window to indicate that a loved one had been killed.
